Exercise 1.1
1. How much wire will be needed to make a rectangle of length 6 cm and breadth 3 cm?
Length of the rectangle = 6cm
Breadth of the rectangle = 3cm
Perimeter of rectangle = (2×l) + (2×b)
= (2×6) + (2×3)
= 12 + 6
= 18cm
Answer: 18cm of wire will be needed.
2. If the length of a rectangle is 14 m and its breadth is 10 m, what is its perimeter?
Length of the rectangle = 14 m
Breadth of the rectangle = 10 m
Perimeter of rectangle = (2×l) + (2×b)
= (2×14) + (2×10)
= 28 + 20
= 48 m
Answer: Perimeter of rectangle = 48m.
3. Each side of a square is 7 m long. Find its perimeter.
Side of a square = 7m
Perimeter of a square = 4a
= 4×7
= 28m
Answer: Perimeter of a square = 28m
4. If we take 2 rounds of a field, that is 340 m long and 160 m wide. Find the distance covered in kilometers?
Length of the field = 340m
Breadth of the field = 160m
Perimeter = (2×l) + (2×b)
= (2 × 340) + (2 × 160)
= 680 + 320
Distance for 1 round = 1000m
Distance for 2 rounds = 1000×2 = 2000m
1Km = 1000m
Distance covered in kilometers = 2000 ÷ 1000 = 2 km
Answer: Distance covered in kilometers = 2Km
5. Sanju completes 10 rounds around a square park every day. If one side of the park is 110 m, then find the distance covered by sanju in a day in terms of kilometers and metres.
Side of a square park 110m
Distance covered = Perimeter
Perimeter = 4a
= 4 × 110 = 440m
Distance for one round = 440m
Distance for 10 round = 440 × 10 = 4400m
Distance for 10 round in kilometers = 4400÷1000 = 4km 400m
Answer: Distance covered in a day in terms of kilometers = 4 km 400m
Meters = 4400m
